LameBOT FAQ
Q: Is it a virus or a trojan?
A: No,
it is not. The matching names are an unfortunate coincidence.
Q: What are the system
requirements?
A: The applications would run on any Windows NT (or
higher OS) machine with at least 512MB of RAM (more is recommended for exploring
greater number of URLs), around 4GB (more is recommended) of free hard disk
space, a decent processor (around 1.8 GHz or more) and a good
internet connection (web proxy via IPs is supported).
Q: Why is
it "Lame"?
A: Well, it lacks several features which are yet to be
implemented (in future releases). To learn more about them please refer to the
last paragraph of the description on the homepage.
Q: What features does it
have?
A: Firstly it is based on a distributed
crawling architechture, that means that several computers can simultaneously do
the web crawling part. Also, it has support for web proxies (you have
to specify the proxies' IPs though). For a more elaborate list of
features please consult the description on the
homepage.
Q: Some of the applications restart unexpectedly. Is it
normal?
A: Except the SCentralURLPool application all other
applications are designed to restart themselves after a specific interval of
time as specified by their config.txt [Scheduled Restart Time (in ms)]
parameter.
Q: The applications are slowing down my computer. What
is the problem?
A: Probably, the number of URLs you have explored
have generated indices too large to fit into your computer's RAM, or you might
have an aggressive firewall/antivirus that monitors net access/ disk access very
stringently. You can add the LameBOT suite applications to their exceptions list
to solve the problem. As such the suite applications are designed to have a low
processor usage.
Q: Can I delete the config.txt file found in the
application directory?
A: Yes,
but do not expect the application to run if you
do so.
